About us
Activities of this group are in the main to hold lecture courses of drying and to conduct plant tours. The group tries to collect domestic and overseas information of the current state of drying technology and the future trend concerning environmental problem and energy saving etc. It is planned to make this group an information source of drying. Moreover, the group cooperates with the APPIE Education Division in the Early Training Course to train young engineers.
Current level of technology, trend and activities in future
Current drying technology is reaching a level that can overcome the following issues: (1) maintenance of quality and function in the drying process, (2) environmental friendliness (exhaust gas treatment, volume reduction of waste, and improvement of equipment cleanliness), (3) energy conservation (e.g., heat pump dryers), (4) multi-purpose/multi-functional drying (simplification of the process through multi-functionality such as filtration and drying, crystallization and drying, and drying and pelletizing), and (5) development of labor-saving technology to compensate for the apparent shortage of human resources.
From now on, given the keywords of energy conservation, the environment and safety, process optimization, and quality control, it will be necessary to: (1) further enhancement of environmental responsiveness, energy-saving and labor-saving technologies, (2) Equipment development and process integration using IoT and AI, and (3) active control of physical properties, quality and functions of materials in the drying process and the imparting new functions.
This group will continue its activities as a source of information on drying technology to “solve questions in the field” by organizing tours and lecture meetings that members can accurately collect information on the current status and future trends of drying technology in Japan and abroad. In addition, we will actively cooperate in training courses for powder engineers in order to develop engineers for the drying.
