CRM Description
The projected area (Heywood) diameter of a particle was determined by the image analyzed software with the picture taken by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the count-based particle size distribution was calculated from Heywood diameters. The diameter for count-based undersize was obtained from the average value of 10 set count-based particle size distribution, where Heywood diameters of 5,000 particles were measured in an each set and the particle size distribution was calculated. In the determination of the certified value, the 2 µm pitch pattern of the NIST traceable magnification reference standard & stage micrometer (MRS-4.1, Geller Microanalytical Laboratory, Boston, MA, USA) was used as the length of particle diameter in SEM pictures, which were taken by the same shooting condition as that of taken the magnification reference standard. The certified value of this CRM is traceable to the International System of Units (SI).

Expiration of Certification
This certificate is valid for three years after the date of shipment, provided that the material is stored in accordance with the instructions given in this certificate.
Homogeneity
The homogeneity of this CRM was determined by electrical sensing zone (ESZ) method for 20 bottles taken from 145 bottles. The uncertainty of the particle size distribution was calculated by the average value of 20 set volume-based particle size distribution measured by ESZ. There are no statistical significant variation between the volume-based particle size distribution measured by ESZ and that calculated from the certified count-based particle size distribution This CRM is homogeneous within the uncertainty.
Instruction for Storage
The CRM should be stored at temperature between 4 ℃ and 30 ℃ in the original, tightly closed bottle and shielded from light.
Instruction for Use
The CRM is used only under clean conditions and at temperature between 4 ℃ and 30 ℃, and handled gently for splash and dusting prevention. In order to prevent adsorption of moisture in the atmosphere, the caps of the bottle is tightly closed. When all materials of the CRM in the bottle is not used, care must be taken to the sampling procedure after stirring and mixing for the homogeneity of the powder in the bottle. The method of quartering sampling or the reduced sampling by the divider should be considered if the very accurate particle size distribution is needed.
Precautions for Handling
The CRM is handled according to the safety data sheet (SDS). If the CRM comes into contact with the eyes, flush with a large amount of running water. If the CRM comes into contact with skin, flush with running water. If the CRM leaks, clean using wet paper or cloth if necessary. When dispose of the CRM, handle it gently for splash and dusting prevention and according to the relevant laws.
